DOWNLOADS
TIP 1: a great place to get free useful applications is from cover CDROM's and DVD's on computer magazines such as Macformat, PCformat, MacAddict, Computer Arts, DIGIT, etc. I'm not just talking about shareware and freeware utilities, these magazines often give away full versions of applications such as Poser3D and Cinema4D (they are older versions with an incentive to upgrade offered within the magazine, ...but even though they're not the most recent version, they are still great for hobby purposes and for learning the software).
TIP 2: most graphics applications these days have demos or 30 day trails you can use to try out their software, I highly recommend trying out these demos before buying software, that way you can try different competitors tools and see which has the features and workflow thats best suited for you.You can either download such demos (but they are usually large downloads) from the manufacturer, or again you can find them on computer magazine cover CDs such as those I have listed above.
