After a few months break from updating this site (Christmas and work craziness keeping me busy) I’ve now come back and feel i really have to put a (very late) posting up on Blackmagic Designs decision to release its newly required Fusion compositing software (which it bought from Eyeon) for free. Autodesk, who used to sell composite (aka Toxik) and Matchmover Pro separately, before bundling them in with their Max/Maya lines, has decided to release the 2014 versions of them as freeware on their app site (they have decided to stop developing these applications). More

Adobe announced updates to a number of it’s CC range of applications just prior to NAB. I will cover the new features below, some of which are definitely welcome, but for a new release it feels like a minor upgrade rather than a major one. More

A couple of years ago Blackmagic Design announced a crazy low priced, fairly high spec, 2K camera. It was an unexpected announcement and was greeted with a mixture of excitement and trepidation. Another year, another NAB and this time there are another two new camera’s (not counting the options) that they are releasing. The 4k URSA is the one that stands out to me. More

Free Renderman for non-commercial projects
In 2014 Renderman turned 25, it is the grandaddy of renders, at the time Pixar decided to restructure its pricing as well as allow it to be used free for non-commercial use.
